It appears Mater Dei won’t face speedy Re-al Mitchell (5-11, 187) as St. John Bosco’s starting quarterback on Friday in the teams’ Trinity League showdown at El Camino College.
The Monarchs, ranked No. 1 in Orange County and nationally by MaxPreps among others, will encounter rising sophomore DJ Uiagalelei as the starting signal caller, according to a report from the Press-Telegram.
The news came from Braves football coach Jason Negro on Wednesday, one day after Mitchell posted on Twitter that he has an undisclosed injury. Negro said Wednesday that Mitchell hasn’t been medically cleared to play and Uiagalelei will start.
Uiagalelei shared time with Mitchell last week in a victory against Orange Lutheran and also rallied the Braves to a victory earlier in the season at St. John’s of Washington, D.C.
